2023 was a year of upheaval for the media platform industry. The streaming sector, which experienced rapid growth during the pandemic, has undergone a complete shift in trends. Traditional media structures have been disrupted by individual-centered streaming platforms, and as the market enters a new phase, a change of dynamics among global and domestic platforms is emerging.
Amidst these changes, SOOP has achieved remarkable financial growth as well as various service improvements. To enhance users’ experience, we improved streaming quality and UI/UX and introduced personalized services(MY+) and Open API-based extended programs. In terms of content, we have expanded our offering of original content created jointly by the platform and streamers, such as production of signature content, and have also expanded our ecosystem by introducing new genres, such as virtual and comprehensive games, further consolidating our position as the No. 1 live streaming platform in Korea.
With this multifaceted growth, SOOP has laid the foundation for future changes and challenges. This year(2024) we are preparing to take a leap forward as a global platform that can connect more users and streamers. In the first half of the year, we launched the beta version of our global live streaming platform, allowing people to enjoy and participate in high-quality live streaming anywhere in the world. SOOP’s global expansion is meaningful not only in terms of platform service expansion but also in terms of partnering with the growth of the eSports and streaming industries in major countries. As our new company name ‘SOOP Co., Ltd.’ suggests, we are dedicated to evolving our services to create opportunities for more individuals and to share in our collective success.
SOOP has continued sustainability efforts by focusing on nonfinancial values as well. We have further advanced our industryleading monitoring system, including AI filtering technology, and reorganized our operating policies to protect platform participants, and we created content that coexists with the local community and deliver eco-friendly messages to expand our positive influence. In 2024, we advanced our corporate governance system by establishing an Audit Committee and promoting board diversity by appointing a female independent director. At the same time, we have continued our shareholder-friendly management stance by transparently disclosing our shareholder return policy.
We believe that the most effective way to connect with our community and stakeholders is through live, two-way communication. Since 2016, we have consistently disclosed our earnings and business achievements via live conference calls. Live streaming has been utilized not only for communicating with investors but also for engaging with employees, users, streamers, and other stakeholders. SOOP's inherent culture of communication and transparent disclosure of business performance to stakeholders has been a driving force behind our healthy growth.
SOOP seeks to grow based on the values of communication and connection and to become a company that fulfills its social responsibilities. As our content reaches the world, we will strive to expand the positive impact of our content in a meaningful way. In addition, we will actively seek opportunities to positively influence our environment and society and to fulfill our responsibilities as a corporate citizen.
