Environmental Impact Management

SOOP is aware of the environmental impacts of our business activities, including platform operations, content development, distribution and dissemination, and commerce. We are making efforts to minimize negative environmental impacts in various ways. We establish an environmental management system, seek ways to engage various stakeholders in a meaningful way, and create environmental value by utilizing the influence of our content.

Environmental Impact Management

Considering our industry and business model, SOOP has established three directions for environmental impact management: “Diversifying activities to reduce environmental impact that involve stakeholders,” “Managing environmental impact indicators and progressively expanding the measurement scope,” and “Spreading media content that is environmentally responsible,” and are promoting environmentally responsible management based on these directions. In 2023, in addition to internal campaigns, we created environmental content that users and streamers can participate, and we continue to manage environmental impact indicators such as greenhouse gas emissions. Going forward, we will continuously focus on reducing its environmental footprint by considering environmental impacts from office working environment to content creation based on the above three directions.

SOOP’s Directions for Environment Impact Management

Environmental Management Policy

SOOP recognizes eco-friendly management as an important factor in corporate development and measures and manages its environmental management performance to share its commitment to eco-friendly management with internal and external stakeholders. In the previous year’s ESG Report, we measured and disclosed greenhouse gas emissions for the first time. We referenced global ESG assessment and disclosure indicators to further expand our environmental performance disclosure for this year. As such, SOOP continues to improve its environmental performance, which we will share through media such as the ESG Report. In addition, all of our business places and data centers strictly comply with environmental laws and agreements in the countries where they are located, and we educate employees on environmental issues and encourage them to participate in environmental protection campaigns. We also plan and produce content to raise public environmental awareness by leveraging the power of content and media. In the future, we will set targets to improve our environmental performance and continue to review the progress of these targets for continuous improvements.

Measurement of Greenhouse Gas Emissions

SOOP discloses its greenhouse gas emissions(Scope 1 and Scope 2). We measure the electricity used for business operations, content production, broadcasting activities at our headquarters, as well as the amount of fuel used by vehicles for site visits and business meetings. Using the collected data, SOOP promotes efficient energy use, runs eco-friendly office campaigns, and encourages green purchasing. Furthermore, we create content to raise climate and environmental awareness and hold donation programs to enhance the positive impact of our business.

Energy Usage Reduction Activities

To improve energy efficiency across our business operations, SOOP measures our energy usage and looks for ways to conserve energy. We are developing energy technologies to reduce electrical energy consumption from the use of computers and servers and conducting energy conservation campaigns to encourage employees to reduce energy consumption in the workplace.

Green Purchasing

SOOP is keep purchasing green products more to manage its environmental impact. In February 2021, we started using FSC-certified paper, and in January 2022, we replaced fluorescent lights in SOOP’s offices with LED lights, which consume about 22% less electricity.

Green Campaigns

In March 2023, SOOP participated in the ‘Together GOGO Campaign’ organized by the Ministry of Environment to create a sustainable office environment. The campaign aimed to reduce the use of disposable products and encourage the use of multi-serving containers such as tumblers, as the use of disposable products has skyrocketed due to the increase in food delivery orders since COVID-19.

In December, SOOP launched the ‘Green Office Campaign’ to reduce paper waste and expand recycling practices in addition to energy conservation. Going forward, we will continue to build an eco-friendly culture in the work environment and sustain campaigns for efficient use of resources.

Create Environmental Content

SOOP produces a variety of content on topics such as climate change and nature protection to raise awareness of environmental issues among users. Since 2014, we have organized tree-planting volunteer activities with a streamer volunteer group on Arbor Day every year, and in 2023, we signed a business agreement with Shinan-gun to host treeplanting volunteer content on Purple Island in Shinan. In April 2024, we held Arbor day event ‘You and I, and the Forest We Create’ at the Gwanggyo Lake Park. During the event, activities included a ‘plogging’ for picking up discarded trash and a tree-planting volunteer effort. In addition, through our donation live commerce initiative ‘Giving Commerce for the Earth,’ we donated a portion of sales from selling our PB products - ‘Deu-Ril Dumplings,’ ‘Deu-Ril x Yukdaejang Yukgaejang,’ and daily necessities - to environmental protection organizations. We also delivered 5,000 ‘Deu-Ril Dumplings’ to food banks.
